Research by the National Retail Federation showed that total spending for Valentine’s Day 2019 reached a record-breaking $20.7 billion. In 2020, it’s not just Valentine’s Day you’ll want to take into consideration…the newly popularized “unofficial” holiday Galentine’s Day (February 13th) is growing bigger each year.

Valentine’s Day

Don’t miss out on the first big retail event of the year, in 2019 the average person spent over $161 for Valentine’s Day. Interestingly, when it comes to splurging on gifts people between the ages of 30 and 44 will spend more than any other age group. On average, men plan to spend about 20% more than women on Valentine’s Day gifts.

Punny slogans, pastel colors and playful messaging/motifs are among the design elements that will be popular with consumers this year. Even though Valentine’s Day has been around for many years, Galentine’s Day is a new, “unofficial” holiday created by US TV show ‘Parks and Recreation’ in 2010. Since then, this holiday has grown in popularity with an increasing number of women, both single and in relationships, using the day to acknowledge the strength of their female friendships. This new holiday has gained a lot of traction on social media too, with over 500,000 Instagram posts using the hashtag #GalentinesDay last year.

Design trends for Galentine’s Day 2020 center around female empowerment slogans, matching products, and all-over designs. Pastel color palettes and handwritten typography are also popular elements to feature in designs. Galentine’s Day is often celebrated as a girls-only event, whether it be a pamper evening or a pajama party. So, comfortable clothes like tees, hoodies, sweatshirts, leggings are perfect for this day of self-care. Consider items like mugs, tote bags and jewelry too for gifting ideas. 

 

Optimization tips

Remember to optimize your listing’s discoverability by including relevant keywords in your listing title and description. This will help buyers find your products as they browse in marketplaces and search for products online. 

When promoting your products on social media sites like Instagram, consider using the following hashtags to increase your listings’ exposure: #ValentinesDay, #valentine, #valentinegifts, #love, #GalentinesDay, #galentines

Cutoff dates to keep in mind

Valentine’s Day product promotion will begin around January 13th, so it’s important to create your designs as soon as possible. Below are the cutoff dates for 2020 Valentine’s Day delivery. Once we’ve passed the standard shipping cutoff dates, buyers can still receive their products in time for Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day—they’ll just need to select ‘rush shipping’ at checkout.
