Creator spotlight: sexuali-tees

Join us for another round of Creator Community Q&As!

This week, we’re chatting with the Creator of the increasingly popular Sexuali-tees. Inspired by fellow Teespring Creator Phil Defranco, the owner of the Qualitiees Tumblr blog has since sold over 5,800 units of his designs to date. Get to know how he harnessed the power of social media, and community feedback.

1) How long ago did you come up with this idea?

I came up with this idea around the end of August 2017 and created the designs for the store in the following days.

2) What inspired you to create this specific design? Why did you decide to make the print so small?

I was inspired by hearing stories of people wanting a unique way to come out to their friends and family. I had seen other related t-shirt designs with small text that required people to look closer and thought this could be used in this way.

3) Did you anticipate the success of these shirts? What type of promotional tactics did you use?

I did not anticipate the success of the shirts at all, I thought I may have sold a few but after a day of being live I knew it would do very well. I used Tumblr to create a post of the tee. Then when people showed their desire for the tees I linked them to the store. I also designed new tees with further sexualities that were requested by people on promotion.

4) Do you have any new designs on the radar?

I created my first Chari-tee, “I’m LQBTQ+” recently and 100% of all the profits go to The Trevor Project who provide help and support to LGBTQ+ youth. I am aiming to do more Chari-tees in the future for different causes as well as new positive designs with small text.

Be sure to check out the brand new store Positivi-tees, where 25% of the profits are going to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
