Crush back-to-school sales with 2019’s top design trends

Back-to-school season is upon us, are you ready? Research by the National Retail Federation found that July 22nd – August 25th is the prime time for back-to-school shopping. This is a huge retail opportunity—total spending outpaced Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Valentine’s Day combined at an estimated $82.8 billion in 2018. With the majority of shoppers starting to purchase 3 weeks to 1 month before class starts, it’s time to start selling.

Don’t forget about additional buyer groups participating in back-to-school shopping. College students account for $55.3 billion in back-to-school sales, spending over $250 more than K-12 shoppers. Additionally, men outpace women in spending by about $115.

Tie-dye style

Tie-dye is back in a big way! With its origins in the hippie movement of the 1960’s, this design is getting new life with Generation Z. Representing hope and freedom, tie-dye is a unisex alternative to neutrals and slogan tees. Global fashion search platform Lyst reports that tie-dye is one of the fastest growing fashion search keywords of 2019, and is sure to be a hit with your audience.

Say it with stickers

Emojis are everywhere, including your clothes. In 2016, more than 6 billion virtual stickers and emojis were exchanged every single day. Bring this into the real world with sticker motifs! This trend is easily transferable to any product, particularly our specialty items at Teespring—pins, hats, backpacks, phone cases, die-cut stickers, and all-over print products especially compliment this design.

Teachers gonna teach

Teachers are heading back to school, too. For educators, inside jokes and “teacher humor” can be applied to a number of items. Popular products include t-shirts, mugs, and die-cut stickers.

It sounds like it’s an option to use to create a product. If so where do I find tide die to design?

    1. Erica Bickel says:

Hey Sandra, tie-dye isn’t a color option within the launcher, but you can create your own tie-dye online using Photoshop or other design apps.

  8. A Chakravarthi says:

Looks like my products are not appearing in any searches. Hence, no sales.
For e.g., When I have searched using QuteCase, our mobile case brand, nothing is coming up, though there are at least 20 products listed with that. This is very discouraging. I have also tried “LGBT FREEDOM” under which I have launched a Tee shirt design. I am wondering if I am just wasting my time, when TeeSpring is not even showing my products in exact match terms also. Please let me know. Thanks.

    1. Erica Bickel says:

Hi A., have you made any sales yet? Once you’ve had a sale, you’ll be assigned a trust score that will make your products eligible to be searched.
