Want to know what it takes to create products shoppers will love? It all starts with having an awesome design. Elements like design color and size can have a big impact on the number of products you sell—make sure to check out our tips below as you begin brainstorming new designs to sell on Teespring.
Design file quality
Your design files should be high quality from the start. The reason file quality is important is because it can impact your “target sale” options. For example, if you create designs using the Teespring Launcher or if you upload a high-quality file your “target sale” will only be 1 item. This means you will have to sell just 1 item to receive the profits and for the order to go to production.
You can check your design’s DPI during campaign setup.
If you use a low-quality design file (i.e. the design doesn’t meet our minimum DPI requirements), the lowest target sale you can select is 3. This means you would need to sell at least 3 items for the campaign to be considered successful (and to receive profits / have orders go to production). Learn more about DPI and design file requirements in the Teespring Training Center.
Keep in mind some designs look better on certain products. If you’ve got a large design then you may want to consider only adding products to your campaign with large printable areas (ex. unisex shirts, stickers, totes, mugs, and sweatshirts will not decrease the printable area—but women’s products and hoodies may decrease the printable area for other products in the campaign). Don’t forget about seasonality too! Hoodies tend to be very popular during the cold winter months, but in spring and summer you’ll want to showcase your tees and tanks to potential shoppers.
Take advantage of large printable areas.

Design size & color
Look at the two designs below, which one is more eye-catching?
It’s obviously the design on the left. This design is large and its bright colors create an eye-catching contrast against the dark background. As you create new designs you should consider how they will appear not only on the products but also how they’ll look when shared on social media.
The second design, although very interesting, doesn’t have the same visual impact compared to the first design. Also, the second design would be difficult to see clearly in an advertisement. Use contrasting colors to ensure your designs stand out on the garment and when shared online or in advertisements. Check out our most popular colors choices for the following products:
- Dark Grey
